WIth TERRA UMBRAE we are creating a choreographic landscape of shadows which draws on our four years of work with Danish landscapes; Jordfall (2023) on a protected forest on Thy, Spacing Out (2023) at a former quarry outside Roskilde, Forest Stages (2024) on a small forest by the Baltic Sea on the island of Møn and Indhyllet (2025) created simultaneously for an overgrown urban lot in Vordingborg and a grass plan in Refshaleøen in Copenhagen.

The title, which is Latin for “earth shadows”, also carries nuances such as pigment, echo, and memory. With this work, we explore how the landscapes we form connections with continue to live within us as elastic imprints that shape how we sense, remember, and move through the world. The hosting landscapes that we co-created those works with, re-emerge here instead as shadows, as echoes, as living memories within the bodies of the original performers of those site-responsive works and in the soundscape by Santi Rzr that re-elaborates through live performance former field recordings and a vast body of sound created for those pieces.

In a universe of large textile formations by Bendixen&Barüel in the post-industrial room of Hallen at Dansehallerne, audiences will submerge themselves in a large landscape of bodies, sound, and embodied memory.

With this piece we want to explore how landscapes to which we form particular attachments in our lives continue to live within us, even when we move away from them or they cease to exist. They remain inside us, leaving a kind of elastic imprint that cannot be fixed, yet still colors the ways we sense, remember, and move through the world. In TERRA UMBRAE, the performers act as living, multifaceted archives. Together they form a landscape of connections between places, bodies, and times, which seeks to open up for the audience's own inner landscapes of memories, places and time.
